Honoring Our Heroes is a writing contest developed in 1995 by the Eastern Cobb County Council of PTAs. The program was designed to encourage students to discover “real life” heroes who have shown generosity, trust, persistence, dedication, leadership, creativity, caring, bravery, imagination, service, gentleness, courage, or compassion.
Alexandra Baker, a sixth-grader at Sullivan Middle School, drew inspiration from Red Skelton and a Veterans Day program at her church to win first place in the national Elks Americanism.
The contest is open to three age groups, Pre-high school, High School and Post Graduates. Participants may be an individual or group, the length of the video should be 2 to 5 minutes in length and on a flash drive or similar “mobile” media in readable format.
